A raw talent with just 24 senior starts under his belt, there is little to go on as to the immediate impact Sidiki Cherif will make at Coventry City. Having joined Fenerbahce in January, Cherif looks to have been moved on due to foreign player quotas in Turkey, having largely made a positive impression in his time at the club. Another physical option in attack who also adds a touch of pace, it seems sensible that Cherif is not being asked to be the main man, but as part of a variety of attacking options for the Sky Blues.
The Guinean forward adds further physicality to Coventry City in what is clearly a drive to add an edge throughout the squad as it makes the step up to Premier League football. While he has played out wide a few times, Cherif looks far more comfortable in a central striker role where he can compete with defenders physically and look to bring others into play. An adept ball-carrier, Cherif could have a valuable role to play as a late sub to take advantage of tired defences on the break.
Based purely on what Sidiki Cherif has contributed in his career thus far, there is little to suggest that he’s ready to lead the line in the Premier League. However, at 19 years old and with top-flight and big club experience behind him, there is enough to suggest that he has the potential to grow with Coventry City over the next few years. Managing Cherif correctly will be crucial in getting the best out of him, which is where having other strike options available feels like it will be particularly helpful. Cherif nudges Coventry towards becoming a more physically robust team, which could help ease the process of the team adapting to their new division.
