A surprise addition days after the end of the summer transfer window, Yann Gboho arrives at Coventry City as a potentially crucial new addition in wide areas to balance out the set of options available to Frank Lampard. Capable of playing anywhere just behind the striker, Gboho joins Coventry off the back of a positive season in Ligue 1 with Toulouse – which tends to be a good proving ground for Premier League football. At 25 years old and having shown he’s match-fit this season, Yann Gboho looks like someone ready to make the mark from minute one.

Predominantly a left-sided attacking player, Yann Gboho can play through the middle or on the right, and thus should be able to slot into different roles as and when required. A strong ball-carrier with an eye for goal, the hope is that Gboho adds a crucial element of direct running from out wide that can provide Coventry City a threat on the counter-attack. The main question mark against his addition is just how quickly he can get up to speed with Premier League football, especially having arrived late in the window.

Yann Gboho provides Coventry City with a fourth definitive wide option that can allow for rotation and depth throughout the campaign. While Gboho being mainly left sided puts him in direct competition with Ephron Mason-Clark, the team’s strongest wide player, the opening games have shown the lack of strength in depth on the left wing while Mason-Clark has been looking to build fitness. Yann Gboho may not be a truly necessary signing but adds something different in attacking areas that Coventry don’t already possess.
