Mark Robins moved swiftly in the transfer market yet again – this time, just three days after the play-off final – to secure the signing of Reice Allassani. The ex-Crystal Palace youth-teamer appears to be an interesting character, having spent a year out of the game with a serious injury and having to drop into non-league with Dulwich Hamlet to rebuild his career, Allassani appears to be someone making up for lost time, and as a former England youth international who was not too long ago reportedly quite close to making his debut in the Premier League, there is also a level of pedigree that makes him potentially a very exciting player.
The clips of Allassani that are available demonstrate an incredibly skilful and direct player who appears to operate more as a striker than an out-and-out winger. Those clips don’t show the skills he’s tried that didn’t come off and his temperament on days when things aren’t going his way, but it does seem like Allassani could be someone to add pace and skill to our forward options, in addition to Jodi Jones. It’s important to bear in mind that this is a massive step up from the 7th-tier to the 3rd-tier and it’s likely that he’ll at least sustain difficulties getting up to the required level of fitness – despite his background at a top-flight academy. Unless he makes a big impression in pre-season, Allassani is likely to begin next year as part of the under-23 side, but he has the hallmarks of someone who could be a bit of a joker in the pack as the season progresses.
