Having impressed in pre-season, Reise Allassani may well have been frustrated at not being handed opportunities to build on that at the start of last season. A direct and skillful wide player with an eye for goal, Allassani was, in theory, the kind of player that the team had been lacking for much of the campaign. A series of loan spells back at non-league level have looked promising without Allassani making the kind of impact expected of a player capable of stepping up to League One, but it can be difficult walking into a team mid-season and immediately fitting in.

Pre-season is going to be make-or-break for Allassani in terms of breaking into the team here. His most direct competitor for first-team football is Charlie Wakefield, with the two likely to be competing for a spot on the bench for the opening months of the season. It isn’t a question of a lack of talent with Allassani but perhaps more down to fitness – having suffered a nearly career-ending injury a few years ago – and opportunities. With a manager who believes in him, Allassani could make it at League One/Two level and build on the momentum he lost earlier in his career due to injury. The doubt with him is whether Mark Robins is the manager who will realise his potential as a professional footballer.
