The problem position over the last two seasons, the hope is that new signing, Miguel Angel Brau, will provide the solution there that Coventry City have been agonising over. Aged 23, Brau is relatively inexperienced for his age, having only really two full seasons as a first-team player under his belt – if we are to ignore Spanish B-team football, which is often played against senior opponents. Last year was Brau’s breakthrough season for Granada, after they dropped down to the Spanish second-tier and finished just outside the promotion play-offs, establishing himself as an attacking presence down the left side of the pitch.

It is that threat going forward that looks to be Miguel Angel Brau’s biggest strength, based on the available footage and statistics. While he failed to register an assist last season, the stats suggest that Brau is an excellent crosser who will thrive in a Coventry City side that love to attack balls whipped into the penalty area. The doubt against him is the defensive side of his game, where he doesn’t appear to be particularly strong and has a habit of picking up yellow cards. The Championship will provide a sterner inspection of those defensive qualities than Brau has faced thus far in his career, which is likely why he will be eased into the first-team picture with the Sky Blues.

The hope is that Coventry City have moved quickly to sign someone at a good age who was available on a free after a breakthrough season. Given how much the Sky Blues want to be a possession side and put opponents under pressure with their crossing under Frank Lampard, Miguel Angel Brau may help round out the team’s threat by providing an outlet on the left side who offers better delivery than the current left-backs in situ. How his adaptation to a new country and style of football will be managed is likely to define whether Brau will sink or swim at Coventry. Someone who looks to be a project player for the club, Miguel Angel Brau’s may well be measured over years rather than months in Sky Blue.
