The one proven player of League One quality that we signed last summer, Kyel Reid has thus far been a disappointing signing by those standards. A frustrating winger who tends to run down blind alleys, Reid has occasionally demonstrated the quality that made him such an awkward customer on the occasions he came up against us. However, the route of the problems he’s faced during his time at Coventry City has been that managers haven’t utilised him correctly as an out-and-out winger.

Towards the end of last season under Mark Robins, Reid showed that he can be a highly effective player when used properly. His assist for George Thomas in the Checkatrade Trophy final showed his ability to cause problems down the left wing and provide quality with his final ball. Reid seemed like he would be a big player for us in League Two, however, his demand for a move away following relegation has seen him loaned out. The fact that he has joined another League Two side speaks volumes about his inconsistency as a player, as well as Mark Robins’ determination to have the right characters in the squad.
