Casted aside by a well-stocked Bristol City, at a threadbare Coventry City, Kasey Palmer has been able to kick-start his career. Being able to play regular starting football has seen Palmer produce what is currently his second-best return of goals and assists in a season in his career thus far. With little direct competition for a starting place between now and the end of the season – with Callum O’Hare out injured – Kasey Palmer has a straight run at bolstering his numbers and demonstrating that he is someone who can regularly influence Championship games.

Broken in slowly at Coventry City in order to build his fitness levels, Kasey Palmer has benefitted from being able to make big impressions in short bursts during his time at the club thus far. Constantly looking to play quick flicks and telling passes, Palmer provides a level of inventiveness in the final third that the Sky Blues hadn’t had before, however, it comes with the caveat that a lot of what Palmer tries to do may not come off. That appears to be why Mark Robins has looked to utilise Palmer as far up the pitch as possible, which has also involved curbing his desire to chase the ball and lunge into challenges out of possession, in order to make sure that when Palmer produces something successful, it is in the final third.

Those flicks, high-risk passes and even the lunging challenges from Kasey Palmer are the actions of a player who has spent almost the entirety of his career trying to prove his worth to managers. They are exactly what a youngster looking to break into the first-team would be doing, rather than a proven starter who has learned to choose when and where they take risks in matches. That is why the remainder of this season is so important for Kasey Palmer, he can be confident of regular starts, the question is whether he can develop a level of maturity to his game to make his natural ability more devastating than the almost random nature it is at the moment.
