It’s easy to forget now what a difficult start to life at Coventry City Jack Grimmer made. Having looked positionally suspect without the benefit of being useful going forward, Grimmer has been a vastly improved player from October onwards, with that match-winning goal against Stoke the culmination of what has been an extended good run of form. Grimmer has to be considered now one of our more reliable performers, having ended any debate over whether Dion Kelly-Evans deserves his spot in the side.
That’s not to say that Grimmer isn’t someone who can still make improvements in his game. While he looks to make himself available as an option on the right flank, his decision-making with his final ball can be questionable at times – although there have been flashes of quality that show he can be devastating when on top form. Defensively, he can still get caught out, but he has rarely been punished for his lapses and is probably an example of someone who’s benefitted from Mark Robins’ defensive organisation of the side, which has allowed him to develop confidence and consistency over the course of the season.
