Making his league debut as a substitute for Fankaty Dabo towards the end of the season against Huddersfield Town, Jack Burroughs demonstrated his versatility by filling in at right wing-back, despite it not being his best position. Just what is his best position is not clear, having played in central midfield and out wide for the under-23 side, as well as an emergency right-back.
In the 37 minutes he had on the pitch, Burroughs didn’t look completely out of place but neither did he look completely comfortable in a defensive role. He arguably made an error that cost the team a goal in making a poor headed clearance towards Huddersfield’s Danny Ward when he maybe had time to get his foot to the ball after Ben Wilson had flapped at a cross, but it wasn’t exactly a howler. Throw in one nice reverse pass that put Callum O’Hare through on goal, Burroughs at least showed what he is capable of further up the pitch. Just how much of a role Burroughs will play over the next year or so remains to be seen, but he is unlikely to have too much first-team involvement yet.
