A player who has been mooted as a potential first-team candidate out of the academy, Jack Burroughs has finally had the opportunity this season to demonstrate his worth at senior level. Earning a run of starts in December, Burroughs acquitted himself well enough to establish himself as a first-team squad member. January recruitment at wing-back has subsequently limited Jack Burroughs’ playing time, but he remains a valuable squad option for Mark Robins.

Thus far, Jack Burroughs has been a solid, albeit unspectacular, performer for the first-team as he has looked to make the step up to senior, Championship football. Defensively, Burroughs is decent in the challenge and in the air, however, his positioning has been targeted on a few occasions. Going forward, Burroughs looks reasonably quick and skilful, with the ability to go either side of opponents – due to being two-footed – a key source of his threat. Based on these early impressions, the attacking side of Burroughs’ game appears the strongest, even if he hasn’t quite been able to find an end product.

It is not apparent yet just how good Jack Burroughs might become, with the January signings having hampered his opportunity to get another run in the side to demonstrate what he is capable of. At the moment, Burroughs can be content with having shown to Mark Robins that he can be a dependable performer when called upon. Over the next year or so, the challenge for Burroughs will be showing that he can positively affect games at senior level in the manner he hasn’t quite been able to yet.
