Having waited patiently for his chance with the first-team, this season has presented Devon Kelly-Evans with his first opportunity to demonstrate what he’s capable of. An energetic player and, like his twin brother, preternaturally strong and tigerish for his height, Devon Kelly-Evans has shown he can be an effective player for us at this level, demonstrated most visibly with the goal he scored in the win against Exeter back in September.
As one of the more older players in the squad who’ve been handed debuts this season, Devon Kelly-Evans must know that he needs to further cement his place around the starting XI or he won’t get another opportunity to do so next season. With Jodi Jones currently out with a long-term injury, a player of Devon Kelly-Evans skill and attributes should be seen as the one to inject the kind of dynamism and pace that we’re missing with Jones out of the side. It seems harsh to ratchet up the pressure on him while he’s still finding his feet, but there is a question mark as to whether he’s more of a runner and a trier than a creative player which isn’t what this team is in desperate need of at the moment.
