New Signing: Jack Rudoni

Coventry City’s latest addition, Jack Rudoni, provides the team with yet another creative spark and could be set for a big year at Championship level. Young, energetic, skilful, albeit a touch frustrating with his end product, Rudoni, is the kind of player that it is already apparent that Mark Robins will adore. Likely the successor to Callum O’Hare, Rudoni is pretty much the most similar player to O’Hare available on the market, with the main difference being that Rudoni tends to operate around 10 metres closer to his own goal. Jack Rudoni already feels a very Coventry City kind of player, that combination of flashy but hard-working and with scope to improve.

Jack Rudoni broke through at AFC Wimbledon operating largely just behind the strikers and reached double figures for goals before earning a move to Huddersfield Town in the Championship where he moved to a deeper role, occasionally being utilised out wide. That ability to play in a few different midfield roles will be valuable at Coventry City, allowing Mark Robins to change formations, although it seems like he has been signed to play as part of a midfield three in a box-to-box role. Jack Rudoni’s biggest strengths are his energy levels and ability to drive forward with the ball at his feet. Where he has to improve is in his final ball and finishing, but he is someone who should be a source of excitement with his all-action style.

The immediate challenge for Jack Rudoni at Coventry City will be getting into the starting line-up, where he will have to compete with Victor Torp, Ben Sheaf, Josh Eccles, Kasey Palmer, and Jamie Allen for one of three places in midfield. That someone of Jack Rudoni’s quality is not guaranteed a starting place in the team speaks to the club’s growing strength in depth, the hope is that pressure will force Rudoni to add the end product that his game can be accused of lacking. Importantly, Rudoni adds another creative, attacking impact player to the squad, allowing Mark Robins to either change things up from the bench or between games to ask different questions of opponents and freshen things up. This is a signing that adds further quality to the team’s attacking options.
